In the Fall of 1967, nine men came together to establish their unity as African-American at Florida State University, a predominately white school. These strong young men wanted to form a group that would exemplify their bond on campus. After much deliberation, they decided it would be best to become an extension of a powerful movement that was already in progress and that movement was Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated. With the guidance of the Chi Omega and Upsilon Psi chapters, Chi Theta chapter was born. As a result of their undying patience, love, time, and affection, The Chi Theta chapter was the first black Greek organization at Florida State University. This was a major step for the university and Omega, as this served as a gateway for other African-American fraternities and sororities to develop at FSU. Officially chartered on August 1, 1970, these distinguished men that formed Chi Theta's were dubbed "The Super Fine Nine".
Since Chi Theta's inception, the morals and ideals of Omega has been instilled in all that followed these pioneers of truth and justice. The chapter strived to perpetuate the standards set by our four founding fathers by participating in Achievement Week, Social Action, Talent Hunt, Scholarship Attainment and other key community projects. The members of Chi Theta have continued to spread Omega's influence in the surrounding communities and on campus. Omega Men are consistently involved in activities that mold the climate of the campus such as student government being elected to senate positions, as well as the President's Committee. Most importantly, Omega Men have always taken a strong and active role in the Black Student Union which serves as the centerpiece of African-American affairs on campus.
With now 35 years of hard work and due diligence, Chi Theta has been awarded the highest honor by the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated by being named the National Undergraduate Chapter of the Year for 2002, 2003, and 2004. Chi Theta will continue to to the utmost to exemplify our four cardinal principles of MANHOOD, SCHOLARSHIP, PERSEVERANCE, AND UPLIFT.
